Trescothik Station

A Lost Bronte Novel
by yu

Cameron Barker is an adorable and articulate orphan raised by a spiteful and callous matron. Eventually he gets a job working as a doctor for the witty Lord Trescothik of Trescothik Station. The unlikely couple rapidly succumb to a frantic passion.

On the day of their wedding, a peculiar monk escapes from the attic of Trescothik Station and starts a fire. Believing that Lord Trescothik is dead, Cameron flees from the church and wanders the sweltering moors for days until he is rescued by a optimistic navigator.

However, although Lord Trescothik is blinded by the fire, he still breathes. Without Cameron he becomes rude and thoughtless. He turns to alcohol for comfort. The ghost of the monk from the attic haunts him.

Meanwhile, thinking Lord Trescothik is dead, Cameron accepts a marriage proposal from his saviour, the navigator. However, one night he believes he can hear Lord Trescothik calling, "Cameron, where are you? Cameron come home!" and he returns to Trescothik Station.

On Cameron's return, he finds Lord Trescothik drunk and without sight. Mistaking him for the ghost of the peculiar monk, he attacks him with a sword and Cameron Barker dies.

As he attends to the body, Lord Trescothik realises what he has done. Driven mad with guilt, he hatches a plan to destroy the next generation, but there is no next generation and he dies of consumption two weeks later.

Created on 9th March 2016.
